TOOLS
GGIT
The Soil Metrics Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tool (GGIT) provides comprehensive modeling capabilities for carbon footprinting and greenhouse gas mitigation analysis in the lower 48 states. Building off COMET-Farm, a whole farm and ranch carbon and greenhouse gas accounting system managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), GGIT was developed for commercial scale and includes advanced features and expertise.
GGIT applications include supply chain analysis, carbon markets, insetting, and conservation scenario assessments. The tool implements the greenhouse gas inventory methods developed and sanctioned by the USDA (Eve et al., 2014, Quantifying Greenhouse Gas Fluxes in Agriculture and Forestry: Methods for Entity-Scale Inventory). Emissions sources quantified include soil organic carbon, direct and indirect soil nitrous oxide, carbon in woody biomass accumulation, trace gases from biomass burning, emissions from urea fertilization, and emissions from lime application.
GGIT Subscription
GGIT is a subscription based SaaS product available via an API. The GGIT API was built for users to generate greenhouse gas inventories and conservation scenarios for actual farm fields in the lower 48 states of the United States

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
Soil Metrics provides comprehensive life cycle assessment capabilities for whatever your needs may be within agricultural, forestry, and food supply chains. Life cycle assessment is a tool used to evaluate the environmental impacts of making a product or performing a process. These assessments are completed by accounting for all
emissions of the product or process. This includes tracking emissions of any input required including upstream production. In the context of Soil Metrics, we focus on performing LCAs to determine total greenhouse gas emissions of agricultural, forestry, and food to provide carbon scores at various stages of the supply chain.

MODELS
DayCent
The DayCent model is the flagship ecosystem model deployed by Soil Metrics via our Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tool (GGIT). First published in 1998, the DayCent model is a daily time-step version of CENTURY, one of the first ecosystem research models developed and deployed to access carbon and nitrogen cycling for research and applied uses. DayCent is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s model of choice for assessing soil organic carbon and direct soil nitrous oxide emissions in the annual greenhouse gas inventory completed for the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
